Turkmenistan celebrated the first International Day of Landlocked Countries

Today marks the first International Day for the Dissemination of Information on the Special Needs and Challenges of Landlocked Developing Countries

Ashgabat, August 7 - Arzuw.news. A briefing was held yesterday in the capital of Turkmenistan on the occasion of the launch of the International Day for the Dissemination of Information on the Special Needs of Landlocked Developing Countries. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, UN High Representative Rabab Fatima and Permanent Representative of Bolivia to the UN Diego Pacheco.

The International Day was established by a resolution of the UN General Assembly adopted at the end of July this year. The date of celebration - August 6 - was not chosen by chance and was celebrated for the first time yesterday.

A new initiative aims to raise global awareness of the specific needs and challenges of States without direct access to maritime routes. The main objective is to strengthen international partnerships to support such countries.

The first celebration of the international day coincided with the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in Turkmenistan. This symbolic coincidence emphasized the relevance of the issues raised.

The day is designed to galvanize international efforts to address key issues for countries without maritime access, including climate challenges and increased transportation costs that significantly impact their economic development.

Following the keynote speeches, the briefing participants held a question and answer session.
