Turkmenistan and Pakistan discuss the TAPI project

Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and Additional Secretary for West Asia and Afghanistan of Pakistan's Foreign Ministry Syed Ali Asad Gillani held political consultations between the two countries today. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The talks centered on the implementation of the strategically important Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project. The diplomats also considered the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in the political and diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining regular dialog at the highest political level to strengthen interstate ties. Special emphasis was placed on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and partnership within the framework of international and regional organizations.

The participants of the meeting noted the importance of the work of the Joint Turkmen-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. It is planned to hold the next meeting of the Commission in the near future.

The diplomats discussed the need to establish direct contacts between representatives of the private sector of both countries to expand trade and economic ties. The issues of improving the legal framework and promoting joint projects in the spheres of energy and transportation were also discussed.

During the consultations, the sides paid attention to cultural and humanitarian cooperation and discussed upcoming events planned for the current year.
