Turkmenistan and Iran discuss expansion of cooperation in the railway sector

The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Minister of Railway Transport M. Akmammedov completed a three-day working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which took place from September 6-8. Arzuw.news reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age.

During the visit, the Turkmen representatives held talks with the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the IRI F. Sadegh and Deputy Minister, Head of the Railways Department J. Zakeri. The main attention was paid to the intensification of trade and economic cooperation in the railway sector.

The delegation familiarized itself with the work of the railcar control center and studied the potential of the Aprin dry port in Tehran. The parties discussed proposals to increase transit cargo turnover and develop key transportation routes.

Special attention was paid to the activation of the China-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railroad and the international corridor of the "Ashgabat Agreement", which unites Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Oman.

The participants of the negotiations agreed to expand cooperation in the railway system to increase trade turnover between the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization. It is planned to ensure efficient use of the Armenia-Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan transit-transport corridor.

Within the framework of the visit the delegations visited the Akiaila-Incheburun railroad crossing and familiarized themselves with the works being carried out there.
