A workshop on sustainable pasture management was held in Turkmenistan

A two-day workshop was held in the Turkmen city of Dashoguz last week to share experiences on sustainable pasture management and soil salinity control. This was reported in an FAO press release.

The event was organized within the framework of joint projects of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan.

During the workshop, the problems related to the increasing drought in the region and its negative impact on pasture productivity were discussed. The experts presented effective methods to increase pasture productivity, including traditional methods for Turkmenistan.

A detailed review of the causes of soil salinization and possible measures to improve land reclamation was also made. The participants were familiarized with modern methods of soil analysis and salinity control.

The workshop resulted in a number of proposals on introduction of advanced technologies for sustainable pasture management and integrated salinity control in Turkmenistan. The participants showed great interest in the methods presented at the event and expressed interest in their use.
