Meredov meets Indian Prime Minister: TAPI project and expansion of trade and economic cooperation discussed

A meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India was held

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov took part in the collective meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian states with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025.

During the talks, the Turkmen diplomat conveyed to the Indian leader greetings and words of respect from the President of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan.

The discussions centered on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) strategic gas pipeline. The sides emphasized the importance of intensifying work on this project and the need to give new impetus to its development.

The participants of the meeting noted the significant economic potential of the two countries to increase trade turnover, attract investments and launch joint initiatives in transportation, energy, industry, high technology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

Special attention was paid to transportation and logistics cooperation. The parties discussed the prospects of connecting the transportation hubs of Turkmenistan and India with the Middle East, the Caspian region and Europe, which could become the basis for international logistics partnership. The North-South International Transport Corridor was highlighted in this context.

Meredov reiterated Ashgabat's readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations with New Delhi in the political and diplomatic sphere, deepen trade and economic ties and intensify humanitarian exchanges. The parties named the open and constructive dialog established at the highest state level as the basis for the development of partnership.
