The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan stated its extreme misunderstanding and concern over the decision of the U.S. authorities to impose a partial ban on the entry of Turkmen citizens to the United States.
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry stressed that such restrictive measures are usually applied in cases of serious offenses by foreign citizens. At the same time, the Turkmen side noted the high level of law-abidingness of its citizens traveling abroad, including to the United States.
The Foreign Ministry called Washington's decision a hasty step that does not take into account the achieved results of bilateral cooperation between the countries. Turkmen diplomats pointed to the positive development of Turkmen-US relations in various areas, including migration policy issues.
The statement emphasizes the neutral status of Turkmenistan, which has been officially recognized three times in UN General Assembly resolutions. The Republic strictly adheres to all international norms in the migration sphere and maintains effective interaction with foreign partners on the basis of bilateral agreements.
The Turkmen side also recalled the international recognition of its best practices in the implementation of UN conventions related to refugees and stateless persons.
