Talks on key issues of regional security and cooperation were held in Brussels on June 17 within the framework of the 17th Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan A. Gurbanov met with Paola Pampaloni, Director of the European External Action Service for Asia. The talks centered on the situation in Afghanistan and approaches to ensuring regional stability.
The Turkmen side presented its position based on the principles of permanent neutrality, good-neighborly relations and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states. Gurbanov emphasized Turkmenistan's active role in restoring peace and sustainable development in Afghanistan through humanitarian assistance and support for peace initiatives.
The participants paid special attention to major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan railroad and the formation of new energy and transportation corridors. The sides reaffirmed the importance of open political dialog and expressed readiness to continue interaction.
In parallel, as part of the same dialog, Turkmenistan's Ombudsman Y. Gurbannazarova met with the Head of the Cabinet of the European Ombudsman Lampros Papadias. The participants exchanged information on the activities, history and functions of their institutions, as well as the specifics of working with citizens' appeals.
The Turkmen side expressed interest in exchanging experience and establishing regular cooperation with European colleagues. Both sides highly appreciated the prospects for dialogue and emphasized the importance of strengthening professional ties between ombudsman institutions.
