Turkmenistan invests $5 mln in the port of Turgundi

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan sign a contract for modernization of the port of Turgundi

Ashgabat, August 1 - Arzuw.news. Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have signed an agreement on the implementation of an investment project to expand the land port of Turgundi in Afghanistan's Herat province with an initial investment of 5 million dollars. The project involves the construction of warehouses and new facilities for loading and unloading commercial cargo. The infrastructure to be developed will serve the Turgundi-Herat railroad line.

According to the terms of the agreement, the Turkmen side will provide financing, but all works will be carried out on the territory of Afghanistan in accordance with local legislation. After the construction is completed, the invested funds are planned to be reimbursed to the Turkmen company at the expense of revenues from the operation of the created facilities.

This initiative strengthens Turkmenistan's position as one of Afghanistan's key trade and economic partners. The countries are actively developing cooperation in the energy sector, including supplies of electricity, oil and gas, as well as implementing joint projects within the framework of the TAPI gas pipeline, development of fiber-optic communications and railway infrastructure.

The implementation of the project in the port of Turgundi should boost transit trade between the states and contribute to the expansion of regional economic cooperation.
