Turkmenistan noted the role of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea in CIS development

Turkmenistan will lead the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2026. The decision was made on October 10 at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Dushanbe, where Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated. The next summit of the organization will be held on October 9, 2026 in Turkmenistan, reports the news agency "Westiabad".

In his speech, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need for active implementation of the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030 and development of North-South and East-West transport corridors, where Central Asia and the Caspian region should play a key role.

The President of Turkmenistan also proposed to strengthen technological cooperation, develop joint production and knowledge exchange between the countries of the Commonwealth.

Noting the difficult international situation, the head of state called the CIS a platform for equal dialog and proposed to create a mechanism of regular consultations of the CIS foreign ministries within the framework of the UN.

In addition, Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the leaders of the CIS countries to visit Ashgabat on December 12 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality. The President of Turkmenistan assured that the country will responsibly fulfill the mission of the future presidency and will soon present the concept of its leadership in the CIS.
