Turkmenistan proposes Central Asia-UN dialog and regional security conference

Speaking Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward proposals to expand cooperation between Central Asia and the UN at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

He called for the launch of an inclusive, full-fledged dialog between Central Asia and the UN. Turkmenistan invited its regional partners to initiate such interaction.

In addition, President Berdimuhamedov announced that Turkmenistan is taking the initiative to hold an annual Conference on Security in Central Asia and Bordering Zones under the auspices of the UN.

He proposed the Turkmen capital Ashgabat as the venue for the first meeting in 2024.

The aim of the conference is to unite the efforts of the Central Asian states, the international community and international organizations to synchronize efforts to ensure sustainable and conflict-free development of the region.

In order to achieve universal and comprehensive security, Turkmenistan proceeds from the necessity to give the UN activities a distinct regional context," Serdar Berdimuhamedov explained.

In his view, a regional approach would give due specificity and enhance the functionality of working together on global issues.
