Turkmenistan participated in the 69th session of the IAEA in Vienna

The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 69th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which was held in Vienna from September 15 to 19. The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry Azat Ovezov. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the event, the Turkmen delegation outlined priority areas of cooperation with the IAEA in the spheres of food security, water resources management and health care. Special emphasis was placed on the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the UN recognition of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.

A meeting was held with IAEA Deputy Director General Liu Hua, during which the parties discussed prospects for cooperation under the Agency's Technical Assistance Program. The talks covered the development of nuclear medicine, the creation of a national infrastructure for the peaceful use of atomic energy and radioactive waste management.

The meeting reviewed the outcome of the successful visit of the imPACT mission, organized by the IAEA together with the World Health Organization to evaluate national cancer control programmes.

On September 16, the delegation took part in the Scientific Forum "Atoms for Water" dedicated to the application of nuclear and isotope technologies for solving water management problems and providing the population with safe drinking water.
