Turkmenistan pays special attention to the protection of historical and cultural monuments

The International Day of Monuments and Historic Sites is celebrated annually on April 18. This is reported by the Internet publication "Vestiabad".

The decision to celebrate this day was adopted by the ICOMOS Assembly in 1983. In 1993 Turkmenistan became a full member of UNESCO and joined the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The protection of historical and cultural monuments is part of Turkmenistan's policy of spiritual revival of the nation.

UNESCO members supported 12 historical and cultural sites and values of Turkmenistan for inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the State Program for 2022-2028 for the preservation of National Historical and Cultural Heritage sites and the Action Plan for its implementation.
