The presidential election in Turkmenistan successfully concluded with a turnout of more than 97%

According to the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, the final turnout at the March 12 presidential election was 97.121, which made it possible to recognize the election as valid.

In accordance with the Electoral Code of the country, the results will be counted and announced no later than a week after the end of the election. One of the nine candidates who receives the support of more than 50% voters will be recognized as the head of Turkmenistan. The inauguration of the new president, if elected, will take place on March 19 after he is sworn in.

Voting procedures began on Saturday at 7 a.m., and by 9 a.m. about 25% voters had voted, and by 11 a.m. over 50% of the adult population had cast their votes for one of the candidates.

In all five velayats the high level of organization of the elections was noted, which were held in strict accordance with international and domestic legal norms. This fact was confirmed by national observers as well as representatives of foreign missions and organizations.
