International Conference of Central Asian Countries on Migration and Sustainable Development held in Ashgabat

The International Conference "Peace, Sustainable Development and Migration" was held in Ashgabat

The capital's Ýyldyz Hotel hosted an international conference on peace, sustainable development and migration. The event brought together representatives of five Central Asian countries and experts from four states of the region.

The conference was held on the initiative of Turkmenistan within the framework of the UN Resolution on the International Year of Peace and Confidence. Representatives of state structures on migration issues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in the forum in a hybrid format.

Experts and representatives of international organizations from Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Turkey also joined the discussion.

The conference program included five thematic sessions. The participants considered modern approaches to personal identification and document management, including countering document falsification and illegal migration.

Special attention was paid to environmental challenges and their impact on migration processes. Experts discussed the consequences of climate change and international initiatives to adapt to new conditions.

The work touched upon the challenges of eradicating statelessness and ways to address them through international cooperation. Participants also considered the prospects of using digital technologies in the migration sphere, including e-visas, digital migration cards and the use of artificial intelligence.

The final session was devoted to regional cooperation, where they discussed mechanisms of interaction and exchange of best practices in the field of migration policy.

Holding the conference in Ashgabat demonstrates Turkmenistan's active position in initiating a dialog on key global and regional issues to strengthen peace and sustainable development in Central Asia.
