Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov today held telephone talks with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the initiative of the American side.
In the course of the conversation, the foreign ministers of the two countries discussed international and regional issues of mutual interest, paying special attention to the situation in the Middle East and related humanitarian problems.
The American side emphasized the active and constructive role of Turkmenistan in international affairs as a neutral state, whose status has been recognized three times by the United Nations. The Turkmen side expressed readiness to participate in the resolution of the Middle East crisis through diplomatic means, following the principles of peaceful settlement of international problems.
The interlocutors emphasized the long-standing positive experience of bilateral partnership between Turkmenistan and the United States in political, trade and economic, socio-cultural and other spheres.
The telephone conversation was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, which indicates the desire of both sides to further develop cooperation.
