Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov today held telephone talks with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the initiative of the American side.
During the conversation, the diplomats discussed international and regional issues of mutual interest, including the situation in the Middle East and related humanitarian problems. Special attention was paid to the role of Turkmenistan as a neutral state in the settlement of regional conflicts.
The Turkmen side reaffirmed its readiness to participate in the resolution of the Middle East crisis through diplomatic means, following the principles of peaceful settlement of international problems. The U.S. diplomat noted Ashgabat's active constructive role in international affairs.
The sides emphasized the long-standing positive experience of bilateral partnership between Turkmenistan and the United States in political, trade, economic and socio-cultural spheres. The role of Turkmenistan as a neutral state, the status of which has been recognized three times by the United Nations, was especially noted.
The telephone conversation was held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, which testifies to the aspiration of both countries to develop mutually beneficial cooperation.
