Meredov and Jaishankar discuss development of TAPI gas pipeline and trade and economic partnership in New Delhi

Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and India discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held talks with his Indian counterpart Subramanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on June 5, 2025. The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and prospects for its expansion.

The meeting paid special attention to the implementation of the strategically important Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) international gas pipeline project. The diplomats emphasized the importance of this energy initiative for strengthening regional partnership.

The parties identified priority areas for the development of trade and economic ties. Among the key areas are information technologies, transportation and logistics, as well as textile, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The Ministers agreed on the need to increase the efficiency of the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation. They also noted the importance of improving the legal framework between the countries.

Meredov and Jaishankar discussed the intensification of cultural and humanitarian interaction, especially in the field of science and education. The diplomats reaffirmed the effectiveness of partnership between Turkmenistan and India within the framework of international organizations at the regional and global levels.

Following the talks, the sides expressed readiness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of regular meetings at the highest and highest levels to maintain a constructive political dialogue.
