Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Russian Ambassador Ivan Volynkin June 14 at the Foreign Ministry building to discuss the bilateral strategic partnership and prepare for the upcoming visit of the Russian diplomatic chief.
Planning for the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Turkmenistan and the development of humanitarian cooperation between the countries were the central topics of the talks. The diplomats noted the importance of the recent telephone consultations between the foreign ministers for the coordination of important areas of interaction.
The meeting paid special attention to the incident with the Russian airliner of the S7 airline, which made an emergency landing at the international airport of Ashgabat on June 13. The plane, which was on a Novosibirsk-Dubai flight, was forced to change its route due to the situation in the Middle East.
The Turkmen authorities provided everything necessary for 170 passengers, including 22 children, and 10 crew members. People were provided with food, drinks, medicines and other vital services.
Ambassador Volynkin expressed gratitude to the Turkmen leadership for their prompt assistance and sent written messages to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, thanking them for their support.
