On Monday, March 27, the head of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan announced the preliminary results of the elections at a meeting with representatives of foreign and domestic media. This was reported by the Turkmenistan Today agency.
The Chairman of the Election Commission noted that the election process was monitored by domestic observers represented by political parties and public organizations, as well as foreign observers from the CIS, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Turkic States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
In total, more than 91% voters cast their ballots in the election, which indicates a high turnout of Turkmen citizens.
A total of 2,644 polling stations were established. Citizens who for various reasons were outside the country during the voting period could visit one of the 42 polling stations in representative offices and embassies abroad.
The election was recognized as valid and the final counting of votes is under way. The results will be summarized and announced shortly.
