The FAO-GEF working group met at the Institute of Turkmenistan

The working meeting of the project group "Integrated management of natural resources in arid and saline areas of Central Asia and Turkey" was held at the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Turkmenistan on April 5 this year. This was reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".

One of the priority areas of the project is combating desertification. A number of activities are carried out in Turkmenistan on a permanent basis: combating degradation of desert pastures, soil salinization, wind and water erosion processes.

The participants of the meeting noted the need to develop an updated National Action Program to Combat Desertification (NAPCD). It was also emphasized that of particular importance is the mandatory implementation of the National Plan with regard to the introduction of a digital system, which will allow for timely monitoring and taking the necessary measures for effective management of natural resources.
