A two-day working meeting of representatives of FAO and GEF and specialists of forestry and environmental sectors of Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat to review the draft updated Forest Code of Turkmenistan. This is reported by the Internet publication "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age."
The FAO/GEF international experts were Ekrem Yazici, Technical Director of CACILM-2 project, and Mahmud Shaumarov, Regional Project Coordinator. The meeting addressed the issues of rational use of forest resources and improvement of the legal framework for reforestation.
The participants of the meeting made amendments and additions that will be taken into account in the process of finalizing the draft Code. The draft law will then be sent to the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the Mejlis for consideration.
