On April 1, a new CPC was inaugurated, the main function of which will be to assist legitimate traders and curb the use of containerized cargo for criminal purposes. UNODC officials, members of Uzbekistan's CPC, and other customs officials from the two countries participated in the launch event online.
The CPC was established on the basis of the Farap Avtoellary customs post as a result of the long-standing cooperation between Turkmen customs officers and the UNODC.
Similar CPCs were opened earlier in the International Terminal of Ashgabat and in the settlement of Turkmenbashi, where the International Sea Port is located.
The GPC near the Uzbek border appeared as part of a large-scale project to control containerized cargo shipments.
