On June 17, another Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union took place in Brussels. The meeting was the seventeenth within the framework of this format of interaction.
The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov. It included representatives of key agencies: the Ombudsman, the Deputy Minister of Education, representatives of the Supreme Court, the Ministries of Labor and Social Protection, Interior, Justice, and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy.
The central topic of discussion was the implementation of the National Human Rights Action Plan for 2021-2025. The Turkmen side reported on the work done, including the activities of the Ombudsman Institute and the ongoing judicial reforms.
Dialogue participants considered issues of strengthening the rule of law and ensuring gender equality. Special attention was paid to the fulfillment of obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality.
The sides also discussed Turkmenistan's interaction with international organizations, including the UN and the OSCE, in the context of human rights protection. The Turkmen representatives emphasized the country's openness to constructive international dialog.
At the end of the meeting, the participants confirmed their readiness to continue regular consultations and agreed on concrete steps to develop cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and equality.
