Representatives of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan and observers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization discussed the March 26 elections to the Mejlis and local authorities. The SCO mission at the meeting was headed by Deputy Secretary General Grigory Logvinov. This was reported by the state news agency Turkmenistan Today.
At the meeting it was noted that the elections of deputies of Mejlis, members of the Khalk Maslakhaty and Gengesh were held at a high level in compliance with the legal norms of the state, as well as generally accepted international standards.
The SCO delegation praised the organization of the elections, the election campaign and the impartiality of the voting process. The observers also highly appreciated the policy of democratic reforms implemented by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
